Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is the oldest and one of the main Orthodox shrines, a unique monastery complex, that you won't find anywhere else. This is the first monastery in the territory of Kievskaya Rus, its preserved almost intact temples, built in the 11th century.
In fact, the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - a real town in the heart of Kiev, there are fourteen Orthodox churches, monastery, seven museums. The word pechera means cave. The word lavra is used to describe high-ranking male monasteries for monks of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Therefore, the name of the monastery is also translated as Kiev Cave Monastery,

The main value of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - the relics of the holy fathers and elected laity - for example, here since the XIV century located the tomb of many princely and noble families


On weekends, the main street of Kiev ,- Kreschatik is being freed from the car traffic. Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kiev

Today in Sofievskiy Cathedral you can see the mosaic, which has been preserved since the 11th century .

in the 11th century Yaroslav the Wise gave the order to construct the cathedral. One version has it that the construction of the temple was associated with the arrival in town of the Metropolitan Feopemt - the future Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, who was Greek ,and who moved from Constantinople to Kiev.
Originally the cathedral was a 13-domed structure, which through the centuries have added 6 more domes. And by the 17th century the building was reconstructed in the Ukrainian Baroque style

People's friendship arch in Khreschatyk Park

This monument is dedicated to the unification of Ukraine with Russia, occurring in 1654 .

In the past the monument was decorated with two inscriptions: "To commemorate the reunification of Ukraine and Russia" and the " 60th anniversary of the USSR", but because of historical events that have taken place later in the history, these two inscriptions were removed. From the observation deck next to the Arch you can witness a spectacular view.

St. Andrew's Church in Kiev

St. Andrew's Church, founded in 1744 on a steep bank of the Dnieper river for the arrival of Elizabeth I, - the only surviving building in Kiev by the famous architect Rastrelli. Built in the style of baroque temple is shaped like a cross, stands in the center of a single dome, and the four corners are decorated with ornamental turrets with a smaller onion-doomed one.

Vladimir Cathedral in Kie

St. Michael`s Golden-Domed Monastery

is a functioning monastery in Kiev
Originally built in the Middle Ages by Sviatopolk ,monastery comprises the Cathedral itself, the Refectory of St. John the Divine, the Economic Gates, constructed in 1760 and the monastery's bell tower, which was added c. 1716–1719. The exterior of the structure was rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style in the 18th century while the interior remained in its original Byzantine style. The original cathedral was demolished by the Soviet authorities in the 1930s, but was reconstructed and opened in 1999 following Ukrainian independence in 1991.

The enduring glory of St. Michael's Cathedral brought its mosaics and frescoes. According to critics, they have discovered a new type of painting in the evolution of ancient Kievskoi Rus.
